Located at the eastern end of Franklin County, Alligator Point is accessed via US Highway 98 and County Road 370. Alligator Point’s protected bay, Alligator Harbor Aquatic Preserve, encompasses 14,366 acres and serves as a nursery for many game fish species such as grouper, snapper, cobia, tarpon, and redfish. Miles of pristine beaches, an abundance of shallow bays, marshes and fresh water rivers provide great outdoor opportunities including deep sea and sight fishing, boating, kayaking, bird and wildlife viewing.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Fernandina Beach has commenced the beach renoursishment project and many areas of the beach will be affected.  Equipment for the next scheduled maintenance dredging is now set up in the Dolphin Street parking lot at Main Beach. The beach renourishment project began in 2017 but ended before completion due to sea turtle season. The dredging will begin again in December 2018 and will last approximately three months. The beach will remain open to residents and visitors outside the work areas, with piping being buried as much as possible. The Dolphin Street parking lot will be closed until cleared of equipment along with some private and rental property beach access.

There were 29,299 holiday/summer homes in Scotland on the 2001 Scottish Census, which accounted for 1.3% of Scotland's housing stock.[8] This figure was 19,756 in 1981, but the majority of the increase occurred during the 1990s. The greatest increase was seen in urban areas, contrary to the usual trends, and increased especially in Edinburgh and Aberdeen. But the majority of holiday/second homes are still to be found in rural areas, notably, 47% of these are to be found in the remote rural areas, where one in every eight house is a holiday or second home.[9]
