Owners of holiday homes will occasionally move to their second homes permanently upon retirement, this can be a threat to the culture of an area, especially in Wales where the influx of non-Welsh speakers affects the percentage of Welsh speakers in the area and reduces the use of Welsh in everyday life.[14][15] Hundreds of second homes were burnt between 1979 and the mid-1990s as a part of a campaign by nationalist movement Meibion Glyndŵr to protect the indigenous language and culture.

The outside space was amazing, very large secluded garden with loads of seating areas and the best pool (heated) we have ever had. The villa was furnished to an exceptional standard, with many extras included e.g. free wi-fi, sky tv with hundreds of films & hairdryers. The villa was far enough out of town to be quiet but close enough (10mns) for walking to restaurants in the Old Town at night. We were pleasantly surprised to have a maid service in the middle of our week and the pool was cleaned mid week too. Great to have an owner who called our first night to make sure everything was ok, and called again on our last night to check all was well. Eric (the owner) was really helpful and easily contactable. … see more
There are some key advantages for staying in a hotel. Hotels (and other types of traditional accommodations such as motels, inns, resorts, etc) are the most popular choice among business travelers and people traveling alone or with large groups. When traveling to a city for the first time, hotels are usually the safest accommodations you can find due to their centralized locations and security features.
Some villas have specific days of the week for check-in and checkout, (usually a Saturday) so ensure this fits in with your plans. If you're looking for a 10-day break, for example, you might want to book a week at a villa plus three nights at a hotel.  The same goes for weekend breaks – during peak holiday periods these may not be permitted unless there's a last minute booking or a cancellation.

Yuma's historic downtown began as a rope crossing for the Colorado River in the 1840s. The earliest adobe homes were lost to floods in the early 1900s, and the current buildings along Main Street were built in the 1920s. Because of this, Downtown Yuma has a definite art deco flair, blending with the desert landscape and the palm trees to create a beautifully unique neighborhood. With its fountains and brick-paved walkways, Historic Main Street is the ideal location for festivals and street fairs.
Today’s global short-term vacation property rental market is estimated to be worth $100 billion[1].The holiday cottage market in both Canada and the UK is highly competitive – and big business.[2] In the UK, this increased competition has led to significant improvements in the quality of properties on offer. This improvement in standards has in turn contributed to the increase in the popularity of holiday cottages for weekend breaks, offering in many cases the same standard of accommodation as an hotel, yet with the increased freedom that a holiday cottage offers.
